Death Guna Caves
The Death Guna Caves, also known as the Guna Caves, are a series of caves located in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, India. These caves are shrouded in mystery and known for their dangerous depths.
History & Formation: The caves are natural rock formations, created by erosion over centuries. Their prominence increased after being featured in the Tamil film Guna (1991), hence the alternate name.
Dangerous Depths: These caves are exceptionally deep and complex, with interconnected passages and hidden crevices. The area has a history of fatalities due to falls into the seemingly bottomless pits, contributing to the "Death" in their name. Visitors should exercise extreme caution. The caves are surrounded by shola forests.
Accessibility and Safety: The area around the caves is now fenced off to prevent accidents, but visitors can still view the caves from a distance. The environment is misty and often covered in fog, reducing visibility.
Shola Forests: Shola forests are a type of tropical montane forest found in the higher elevation regions of South India. They are characterized by stunted, evergreen trees and are often found in valleys and depressions.
